Video Description: Tameka Daniel (also known as tamE) is a spoken-word artist living and working in Memphis. TamE has been writing for as long as she can remember, and performing in and around Memphis since the mid-90s. After graduating from Overton High School, she studied political science and counseling at UT Martin, but there was always a place in her world for poetry.
Performing with various groups and in various venues, tamE became a member of the poetry troop "Organized Tribe" in 1998 and in 2000 went on to found her own group, "Poetic License," which she ran through 2003. In 2007 TamE became involved with NeoSoulville as a member of "The Spokenherd." Eventually her role in that group expanded and she began co-hosting special versions of the open-mic show for children at MIFA (the Memphis-based Metropolitan Inter-Faith Association). Currently you can catch her as the co-hosts of the weekly open-mic poetry event, "The Word" (a program of NeoSoulville) every Monday night at Cafe Soul.
